Salary:
The role offers a competitive salary in the range of $85,000 to $125,000 per year, plus benefits including an annual bonus plan, leave of absence top‑up programs, generous vacation time, personal days, premium‑free benefits, and a pension plan.
We seek Life Actuaries at levels:
Actuarial Analyst, Senior Actuarial Analyst, Senior Actuarial Associate. Working with high autonomy, the successful candidate will contribute to the actuarial department and other internal departments, applying analytical skills and actuarial knowledge to conduct and present analysis. Senior positions may mentor junior analysts.
- Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources, assessing data quality.
- Support the business and overall team by performing analyses/reviews and completing ad‑hoc requests and special projects in a timely manner with some support from peers and leaders.
- Evaluate procedures and processes, and suggest potential alternatives or improvements.
- Suggest recent approaches to problem solving and assess impacts of solution options with some support from leaders.
- Maintain knowledge of current industry news and trends, and consider their impact on Wawanesa.
- Commit to professional development and continuous experiential learning to build cross‑functional knowledge, technical skills, and mastery in competencies.
- Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and build trust with teams around the actuarial function; know when to seek expert input.
- Actively contribute to the mentorship, training, and development of actuarial analysts.
- Review analysis of peers and provide thoughtful feedback on reasonableness, completeness, and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related discipline.
- Hold either ASA, ACIA, FSA, FCIA designations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex terminology and concepts into simple terms for stakeholders.
- Ability to produce easy‑to‑consume documentation and effectively present work to a wide audience.
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel, SQL, R, Python, PowerBI and/or other related software/programming languages/actuarial software with ability to adapt to new enterprise system environments.
- Solid foundation of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business knowledge, and ability to apply this knowledge to problems in insurance.
- Strong attention to detail when performing analysis, with minimal technical errors and ability to identify errors and potential areas of concern.
- Understanding of need to balance materiality/efficiency and accuracy/detail.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner, proactively keeping leaders informed of progress.
- Ability to work efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment; ability to respectfully challenge the status quo.
- Build knowledge of current industry and professional standards as they directly relate to individual responsibilities.
