VICE PRESIDENT, FINANCE & BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

The finance team consists of the Vice President, Finance & Business Management and the accountant.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the finance team, and your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and execute long-term financial strategies that align with the organization’s overarching goals.
  • Oversee the creation of annual operating budgets, capital expenditure plans, and rolling financial forecasts, ensuring departmental accountability.
  • Serve as a core advisor to the CEO, the executive team and the Board of Directors, providing clear financial narratives, risk assessments, and data-driven recommendations to guide major decisions.
  • Lead and coordinate the preparation of financial statements, estimates, budgets and other financial analysis.
  • Prepare financial and management reports for the CEO, Executive Management Team (EMT), Audit and Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Lead and manage the annual external audit process.
  • Develop, implement and maintain all financial and business administration systems, and internal control processes to ensure accurate and complete recording and reporting financial results that meet professional and legal requirements.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for change (as appropriate) regarding the financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and other financial control functions to the EMT.
  • Optimizing and tracking complex funding models, including federal or provincial non-repayable project grants.
  • Provide guidance, direction and support to CC managers and EMT in development of client project budgets and costing for CC services and programs.
  • Oversee treasury management activities, including cash flow, investments, banking relationships, credit facilities, bank reconciliations, and corporate credit card administration, including the issuance of cards and approval of credit limit changes.
  • Review and manage critical corporate contracts, vendor agreements, and legal obligations to protect the organization’s interests.
  • Manage the financial components of business relationships with industry partners and core funding partners.
  • Managing core funding agreements with Federal and Provincial Governments.
  • Key contact with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) program administrator on amendments to approved expenditure levels and cost eligibility including preparing funding reports and supporting documents to AAFC.
  • Provide financial costing and management reporting on all consulting projects and program services.
  • Manage the organization’s business support vendor relationships, including its outsourced IT vendor, to ensure business needs are met.
  • Lead, mentor, and build accountability within the finance, accounting, and administrative teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee payroll administration processes in collaboration with the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee compensation.
