We are seeking a hands-on, personable and adaptable Human Resources Manager who understands the fast‑paced nature of the restaurant industry and can bring a people‑first approach across multiple locations.

Summary

The Human Resources Manager is a key partner in driving people strategy and operational success across all Smitty’s restaurant locations in Winnipeg and Niverville. This role is responsible for leading recruitment and onboarding, supporting performance management and employee relations, and fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture. The Human Resources Manager works closely with the Assistant Operations Manager and restaurant Managers to ensure that consistent, practical and hands‑on HR practices are embedded in daily operations.

Beyond day‑to‑day HR functions, this position plays a proactive role in shaping employee engagement, promoting accountability ensuring compliance with company policies and employment legislation, and serving as a trusted advisor to leadership. The ideal candidate combines strong interpersonal skills with sound HR judgement to build trust, resolve issues and contribute to a thriving, people‑centered work environment while consistently living out Smitty’s values.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or related Business Administration degree
  • CPHR or actively working towards certification considered an asset.
  • 4+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably within the hospitality or restaurant industry.
Skills
  • Strong understanding of recruitment, onboarding, performance management and employee relations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employment standards, health & safety, and HR practices in Manitoba.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, approachable, proactive and an attentive listener.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across diverse teams and management levels.
  • Experienced and comfortable managing sensitive issues and having difficult conversations.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
  • Highly organized and adaptable, with strong attention to detail and thorough follow‑up.
Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Retention
  • Lead end‑to‑end recruitment for all restaurant locations, including management of job postings through respective platforms and candidate screening.
  • Partner with the Assistant Operations Manager to conduct candidate interviews and selection decisions.
  • Support workforce planning and retention strategies to identify vacancies and ensure adequate staffing levels are met.
Onboarding & Training
  • Lead and coordinate the implementation onboarding programs for new hires in collaboration with restaurant Managers.
  • Monitoring employee training compliance rates and supporting managers in driving staff accountability.
  • Ensure consistent use of Smitty’s Canada online training modules and the new hire “Passport Program”.
Engagement, Culture & Recognition
  • Partner with Managers to promote a positive workplace culture that actively supports Smitty’s values.
  • Develop and coordinate team‑building initiatives around sales incentive programs and performance recognition.
  • Provide an approachable and supportive presence across all restaurant locations. Building trust with employees and management alike.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health, Labor, and Immigration requirements by ensuring timely submission of all mandated forms and adherence to provincial legislation and internal safety policies.
  • Oversee and review insurance plan comparison and renewals.
  • Participate in health inspections and drive reward programs tied to compliance results.
