What You’ll Be Doing

The HR Business Partner will play a crucial role in supporting the HR team by providing guidance on recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, compensation, training, and employee development. This role is designed for someone who thrives in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment and will work closely with leaders and team members to create a positive and productive workplace.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Partner with business leaders to understand the operational challenges and provide strategic HR support to meet business objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and the broader HR team on HR policies, procedures, and best practices for the Canadian market and workplace. Assist with US‑based businesses and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal labour laws such as Canada Labour Code, employment standards codes/acts, and human rights legislation.
  • Lead and implement HR initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Oversee the performance management cycle, assisting with performance check‑ins, goal setting, and supporting employee development programs to enhance productivity and morale. Suggest improvements to process, as applicable.
  • Coordinate learning and development events, identify skills gaps with management, design and deliver relevant sessions, and maintain records to ensure team members receive necessary training.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers and recruiter to address staffing needs and develop effective recruitment strategies.
  • Assist with onboarding to ensure smooth transitions for new team members.
  • Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
  • Conduct investigations related to workplace issues, including harassment, discrimination, and safety concerns, and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Write internal documents and communications for team members.
  • Serve as the main contact for team member inquiries on policies and procedures.
  • Assist in executing the year‑end compensation review process.
  • Maintain accurate team member records.
  • Assist with benefits administration, support payroll and benefits inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with all corporate stakeholders, including external vendors/suppliers.
Skills / Experience
  • Post‑secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Professional designation (CPHR, SHRM) is preferred. Exposure to U.S. market is preferred.
  • 5–10 years of experience in an HR Generalist/Advisor capacity.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in conflict resolution, independently mediating disputes.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations in Canada, including the Canada Labour Code.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (within Canada and U.S.), up to 20% of the time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have ability to communicate across the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
