Duties:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, the Executive Director is responsible for the management and program delivery of the Manitoba Accessibility Office (MAO). The Executive Director is a member of the divisional management team.

The Executive Director supports the Minister of Families in fulfilling her mandate as Minister responsible for Accessibility and is responsible for the implementation of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA) and its standards by almost 42,000 organizations in the public and private sectors. The Executive Director provides leadership in the interpretation of the AMA and its regulations in order to create public awareness and compliance among affected organizations.

The Executive Director supports the smooth functioning of the Accessibility Advisory Council in fulfilling its mandate to develop and review accessibility standards, to guide activities of the government to improve accessibility, and to set long-term accessibility priorities. The Executive Director is responsible for the Manitoba Accessibility Fund, including the annual distribution of grants based on the growth of a $20 million endowment fund dedicated to the implementation of the AMA principles and standards.

The Executive Director is also responsible for the Accessibility Compliance Secretariat and is responsible to administer the compliance requirements of the AMA, including planning, developing, implementing, monitoring and enforcing compliance under the AMA and its regulations.

Qualifications:

Essential:

Post‑secondary degree in public administration, business administration, law, public policy or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and responsible leadership experience may be considered

Proven ability as a leader with a commitment to create, support and sustain a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results and to develop for the future

Demonstrated ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change, including as these affect communications strategies

Management experience with responsibility for human and financial resources, preferably with compliance enforcement and/or grant‑making experience

Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans, and experience with strategic performance management and measurement systems (e.g. Key Performance Indicators, Balanced Scorecards)

Strong verbal communication skills

Strong written communication skills
