Supervisor:  School Principal

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will aid and provide supports in all aspects of planning and cultural knowledge transfer of traditional practices in a safe and acceptable environment; and coordinate access to Elders and knowledge keepers. Will also work to promote cultural awareness, safety and competency within an environment conducive to learning and retention.
KEY RESPONSONSIBILITIES:
Acquire, maintain resources e.g. language resources, history books, art, and traditional protocols.
Assist in providing traditional knowledge and practices e.g. harvests, hunting & trapping and preserving traditional foods.
Promotion of Language e.g., relative to the environment and surroundings.
Liaison and connect Elders and Knowledge keepers to promote direct contact with traditional resource people to support activities.
Provide space and opportunities for Traditional Arts & Craft.
Assist in the development of culture-based work plans that best support program and service design.
Work with local stakeholders within non-Indigenous community service organizations and institutions to promote cultural competency and awareness

QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on Language, Engagement and Community Outreach
Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous peoples.
Minimum of three years of demonstrated and related work experience within an Indigenous organization or community
Exceptional knowledge of Indigenous historical and contemporary issues
Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies and/or combination of an equivalent and relevant education.
An understanding of the Indigenous culture & the ability to speak Ojibwe Language is an asset.
Mandatory Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check, a Drivers Abstract are required.
