Executive Summary

Rector and Dean – The Cathedral Church of St John
"
Diocese of Rupert’s Land, Winnipeg, Manitoba

The Bishop invites applications for the position of Rector of the Cathedral of St John and Dean of the Diocese of Rupert’s Land.

Founded in 1820, St. John’s Cathedral is the oldest Anglican parish west of the Great Lakes and the historic mother church of the Diocese of Rupert’s Land. As the diocesan cathedral, it serves as a centre for worship, mission, diocesan celebrations, ordinations, and public witness while maintaining a vibrant parish life rooted in Anglican tradition and hospitality.

St. John’s is a welcoming, diverse, and spiritually grounded congregation with an average Sunday attendance of approximately 80 worshippers, a strong music tradition centred on its excellent choir and Casavant organ, dedicated clergy and lay leadership, a growing children’s ministry, and a longstanding commitment to reconciliation, refugee sponsorship, pastoral care, and community engagement.

The Cathedral is seeking a priest who combines deep spiritual maturity, strong Anglican liturgical leadership, collaborative leadership skills, pastoral sensitivity, administrative competence, and a heart for mission. The successful candidate will serve not only as Rector of the Cathedral Parish but also as Dean of the Diocese, working closely with the Bishop in supporting the mission and ministry of the Diocese of Rupert’s Land while providing leadership to the Cathedral congregation.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a historic cathedral into its next chapter of ministry. This can happen by building on a legacy of faithful worship while helping shape a future marked by discipleship, reconciliation, community engagement, and Gospel witness.

Those who are prayerfully discerning a call to cathedral ministry and diocesan leadership are warmly invited to apply.

Clergy from other dioceses are required to have the permission of their own diocesan bishop before applying.
