JOB SUMMARYReporting to the Director of Philanthropy, Stewardship & Engagement, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for developing, managing and growing a portfolio of current and emerging donors capable of making major gifts to advance Siloam Mission’s wide range of program, capital, and operational priorities.
Through strategic relationship management, this position identifies, cultivates, solicits, secures and stewards philanthropic support from individuals, corporations and foundations across a variety of giving opportunities, including major and legacy gifts.
Guided by Siloam Mission's Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan, the Major Gifts Officer builds meaningful, long-term relationships that align donor interests with organizational priorities while providing an exceptional donor experience. Through thoughtful stewardship, portfolio management, collaboration and data-informed fundraising practices, this role contributes to achieving Siloam Mission's annual fundraising goals and long-term sustainability.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Portfolio & Relationship Management- Develop and manage individualized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for a portfolio of 60-80 current and prospective donors through engagement, retention and growth.
- Manage a portfolio of legacy and emerging major gift donors and prospects using internal data, external research and relationship networks.
- Lead solicitation strategies and gift requests that advance annual fundraising goals.
- Identify opportunities to deepen donor engagement across multiple giving opportunities, including major and legacy gifts.
- Build and foster meaningful long-term relationships with donors through personal visits, tours, phone calls, correspondence, events and other engagement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate portfolio activity, contact reports and next steps through an established moves management process.
- Provide exceptional stewardship by ensuring timely gift acknowledgement, meaningful impact reporting and ongoing donor engagement.
- Coordinate personalized donor recognition activities in accordance with Siloam Mission's donor recognition practices.
- Maintain regular communication with donors regarding the impact of their philanthropic support.
- Represent Siloam Mission at community events, donor meetings, networking opportunities and other external engagements.
- Support donors through complex giving opportunities involving estates, securities, insurance, donor-advised funds or other planned giving arrangements while encouraging independent legal and financial advice where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate donor records, gift documentation, contact reports and pipeline activity within the donor database.
- Utilize CRM systems and fundraising analytics to manage donor activity, monitor portfolio performance and fundraising effectiveness, and identify emerging opportunities.
- Prepare regular reports on portfolio activity, fundraising performance, pipeline development, forecasting and key performance indicators.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure gifts are accurately documented, allocated, reconciled and administered according to donor intent.
- Works with operational staff to provide meaningful gift impact reports to donors.
- Monitor fundraising trends, portfolio metrics and donor data to inform planning and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all fundraising activities comply with CRA charitable regulations, organizational policies, donor intent, privacy legislation, and ethical fundraising standards.
- Stay informed about fundraising trends, funding opportunities, and best practices within the Canadian non-profit sector.
- Meet established portfolio activity, stewardship, solicitation and revenue goals while contributing to departmental fundraising objectives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify funding opportunities and develop compelling donor-centred proposals, cases for support and presentations that align donor interests with organizational priorities.
