Job Description & How to Apply Below

Ansept Construction is a growing general contractor delivering residential, commercial, multifamily, and design-build projects across Western Canada. We are hiring an experienced Journeyman Carpenter to serve as the senior trade professional on-site, responsible for setting and maintaining the quality standard across all carpentry scopes while mentoring foremen, apprentices, and labourers. This role extends beyond individual execution. The successful candidate takes pride in their craft and is motivated to elevate the skill and output of those around them.

As our Journeyman Carpenter, you will oversee daily construction activities, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency on our commercial and residential sites. This position involves significant responsibility and supervision, but also comes with the opportunity to help shape the future of our company. You will be key in driving success and innovation on our projects.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the on-site technical authority for all carpentry scopes, from layout through to punch list completion, ensuring workmanship meets company and project standards.
  • Execute complex installations including custom trim, precision flooring transitions, and window and door packages, maintaining a high standard of accuracy and finish quality.
  • Mentor and develop crew members, including apprentices, labourers, and foremen, by providing hands‑on instruction, technique demonstrations, and real‑time quality coaching.
  • Review project drawings proactively to identify potential conflicts, coordination issues, or material requirements before they impact the schedule or result in change orders.
  • Collaborate with the Site Superintendent on scope planning, daily progress, and resource needs to support efficient project delivery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area at all times and ensure tools and materials are properly stored and accounted for at the end of each day.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, material shortages, or workmanship issues to the Site Superintendent or Project Manager promptly.
  • Comply with all site safety standards, OH&S requirements, and PPE protocols at all times.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Site Superintendent or Project Manager as required.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation reflecting journeyman‑level skill and leadership responsibility
  • A diverse mix of project types, including residential renovations, commercial builds, and restoration, providing continuous professional development
  • Full‑time employees are eligible for company benefits
  • A defined career path with advancement opportunities into Foreman, Superintendent, and Project Manager roles as the company scales
  • A quality‑driven work environment with access to the materials and tools required to deliver to standard
  • Support for continuing education and certification upgrades
Required Qualifications
  • Journeyman Carpenter certification (Red Seal strongly preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on carpentry experience across multiple scopes
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising, mentoring, or technically leading other tradespeople
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle - you will travel between project sites across the operating region
  • Physical ability to perform demanding construction work daily, including lifting, climbing, and working in varying weather conditions
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with residential renovation and restoration, not limited to new‑build construction
  • Current WHMIS, CSTS, and First Aid certifications
  • Experience contributing to project scoping, material take‑offs, or estimation
  • Comfortable with digital tools for daily reporting and communication
  • Experience on projects ranging from under $500K to over $2M
