The Department of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness is seeking a qualified maintenance tradesperson/painter to support safe, reliable, and compliant operation of provincially owned properties in Winnipeg. Under the direction of the Supervisor, the incumbent will perform painting and maintenance services in owner facilities, including painting, surface finishes, mixing paint, using brushes, rollers or spray equipment, inspection, and preparing scopes of work for maintenance and repairs.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Supervisor or designate, perform painting and maintenance services in owner facilities, including but not limited to painting, surface finishes, mixing paint, using brushes, rollers or spray equipment; perform inspection and prepare scopes of work for maintenance and repairs; and assist contractors, trade helpers or other designated persons. The position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Qualifications- Journeyperson experience in painting & decorating
- Professional experience in paint and coating application for various interior and exterior surfaces as it applies to residential and commercial buildings
- Professional experience in the preparation of large surfaces for painting & coating, including drywall repair, patching, mudding, taping and sanding
- Professional experience preparing accurate estimates for work orders and materials
- Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health Act, safety policies, safe work procedures
- Strong interpersonal and client service skills. Must be able to work with a diverse client group with the ability to deal effectively with tenants and the public
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Strong mental and emotional resilience in dealing with Manitoba’s most vulnerable and underprivileged communities
- Ability to communicate in French both written and verbal
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks
- Must possess and maintain a valid Full Class 5 Manitoba driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- Valid certificate of qualification as journeyperson Painter and Decorator
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position, including the use of ladders, working at heights, work in confined spaces, work in dusty and extreme heat/cold conditions, lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, stand, crawl, sit and stand for extended periods, and wear PPE
