Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Position Summary:
The Equipment Operator operates heavy machinery and equipment used in the arborary industry. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the proper functioning and safe operation of heavy-duty equipment, while maintaining the safety of other team members and the environment.

Job Duties:
Landscape maintenance, including stump grindingSkid-steer operationsConduct an initial equipment inspection to ensure machinery is safe and ready for the day’s tasksAdjust operations based on changing conditions or shifting project needsSet up the worksite, ensuring the equipment is positioned correctly for safe operationHelp organize the materials and equipment needed for specific tasks (e.g., ensuring the right attachments are used)Assess the terrain or job conditions to adjust equipment settings or approachesHelp enforce on-the-job safety practices for crew membersIdentify potential problems with machinery before they become major issues, making minor repairs as needed, and informing the supervisorSafeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area, cooperating with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or drivewaysSet up barriers, warning signs, and flags to protect both employees and the public, while being trained to perform tree and bucket rescuesEnsure equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of each shiftKeep accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and fuel consumptionReport on the job progress, site conditions, and any issues that ariseDocument equipment damage or accidents according to company protocolsPerform fertilization tasks, including root injection for trees and soap application for insect controlSupport, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownershipComply with applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and proceduresMaintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetingsOther Duties:
Occasional travel outside of the office may be requiredDuring emergencies or natural disasters may be required to be on duty for the duration of the disasterWorks around excessive noise from machines, chainsaws, woodchipper and must wear proper personal protective equipmentKnowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements:
Grapple truck experience preferredExperience in working around hazardous equipmentProficiency in operating and maintaining tools and equipmentEnforces on-the-job safety practicesAbility to guide and lead those on the jobPossesses the ability to lift move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basisAbility to prioritize competing tasks as new situations continue to emergeProficient in Microsoft Office Suite products utilizing the latest operating systemsExperience with Apple-based productsDemonstrate excellent customer service focusing on rapport-building, listening, questioning and patienceComfortable working in noisy environments with proper PPEWillingness to work long hours, overtime, and participate in on-call rotations during emergenciesAbility to operate and service all required tools and equipmentAbility to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendorsEducation, Certification & Experience Requirements:
A High School Diploma or higherValid Class 1 license with air brakes and current driver's abstractExperience operating heavy equipment such as Tandem Axel Grapple Truck and Sennebogen equipmentOther Preferred Requirements:
Willingness to obtainValid First-Aid and CPR certificates
