Field Service Technician (Surface Drills) / Heavy Duty Mechanic
Location: Sault Ste. Marie
Schedule: 14‑14 drive‑in drive‑out (subject to change)
ResponsibilitiesThe Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical components of surface mining equipment.
- Inspect equipment for proper performance and determine faults and malfunctions.
- Adjust equipment and repair/replace defective parts, components, or systems according to scope of work.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance.
- Commission new equipment.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Complete accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports, and parts lists.
- Stay current with industry, customers, product developments, and technical best practices.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager.
- Comply with safety policies and applicable government, customer, or industry regulations.
- Identify and report unsafe work habits, workplace incidents, or near misses; perform risk assessments (“Take Five”) before each task.
- Maintain hand tools and equipment for safe operation.
- Maintain orderly work area and meet housekeeping requirements.
- Attend Environmental, Health and Safety related trainings.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) assigned for each task.
- Relevant trade certification (Red Seal considered an asset).
- At least 3 years of related experience with mining equipment (asset).
- Previous experience with equipment (asset). Common Core training (asset).
- Excellent proficiency in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical issues with mining equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literacy (MS Office). Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to local mine sites and across Canada as required.
- Ability and willingness to work varied shifts (as required).
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
