Job ProfileUnder the supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator, the Assessment Specialist (HVAC/Mechanical) is responsible for performing condition assessments of HVAC/Mechanical systems and other assets within the Municipal Accommodations portfolio.
Facility condition assessments are required to ensure best Asset Management and Sustainability practices, as well as to identify maintenance and critical building issues for the building portfolio.
As The Assessment Specialist (HVAC/Mechanical), you Will- Perform physical building assessments with focus on HVAC/Mechanical systems (heating, air conditioning, plumbing, etc.) of approximately 1,700 buildings and other assets.
- Update data received from external sources and recommend enhancements to the existing maintenance program(s) from assessment observations.
- Generate and provide asset data reports, maintain assessment software training, and assist in training new staff.
- Journeyperson Heating, Air Conditioning Mechanic, or Plumbing trade licence with five (5) years related experience.
- OR Certified Engineering Technologist designation related to the field of Mechanical Engineering, and eligibility for membership with CTTAM.
- Sheet Metal, Industrial Mechanic and limited electrical trades licences are an asset.
- Five (5) years experience working in building construction and maintenance, with focus on the mechanical/plumbing trade.
- Experience with maintenance of a variety of building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, civil).
- Experience with various building types (recreational, commercial, residential).
- Experience with various building construction types and codes (new construction, 1960’s construction and historic buildings).
- Experience working with various trades (consultants, engineers, carpenters, technologists, plumbers, HVAC mechanics, electricians, etc.).
- Experience in using Microsoft Office suite (Office 365, SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience in using database management systems such as VFA, Maximo, People Soft or equivalent.
- Experience in construction cost estimation.
- Knowledge of the National Building Code, Manitoba Building Code and regulations.
- Knowledge of the Accessibility Design Standard.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to train and provide direction to staff regarding the methods, practices, and operational duties in relation to the HVAC/mechanical trade.
- Ability to work as part of a team, establish and maintain positive work relationships with other staff, internal and external stakeholders, contractors and consultants.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to write effectively and concisely.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi‑task, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations, legislations and best practices such as Working Alone, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS.
