Position OverviewShermco Canada is seeking a Senior Field Service Technician
- Electrical Power Systems to support field service projects across Manitoba, Canada, and the United States.
This role is ideal for an experienced electrical testing technician who enjoys hands‑on field work, troubleshooting complex power systems, supporting commissioning activities, and mentoring others. The successful candidate will work on low, medium, and high‑voltage electrical equipment in utility, industrial, and commercial environments.

- Perform testing, inspection, maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting of low-, medium-, and high‑voltage electrical systems, including equipment up to 600 kV
- Test and maintain transformers, switch gear, circuit breakers, protective relays, cables, meters, automatic transfer switches, and related power system equipment
- Conduct electrical testing such as TTR, Doble, insulation resistance, power factor, VLF, Tan Delta, DC hipot, relay testing, and meter calibration
- Support start‑ups, shutdowns, emergency response work, and commissioning of critical electrical systems
- Accurately collect, analyze, document, and report test results using digital reporting tools
- Provide technical support, guidance, and mentorship to junior technicians and field team members
- Follow Shermco, customer, site‑specific, provincial, federal, and cross‑border safety requirements
- Travel to customer sites across Manitoba, Canada, and the United States as required
- Minimum 5+ years of hands‑on electrical testing, field service, commissioning, or power systems maintenance experience
- Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, Electrical Power & Controls education, Journeyperson Electrician certification, or equivalent field experience
- Experience with switch gear, transformers, substations, breakers, protective relays, cables, and power distribution systems
- NETA Certification Level II–IV is considered a strong asset
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and problem‑solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and reporting software;
PowerDB experience is an asset - Valid driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel approximately 50% and meet applicable cross‑border travel requirements for U.S. assignments
- This is a field‑based role requiring travel to customer sites, substations, industrial facilities, utility environments, and project locations. Work may include outdoor conditions, energized and de‑energized electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights, rotating on‑call schedules, overtime, weekends, and short‑notice project needs.
- Candidates must be able to perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 34 kg / 75 lbs, climbing, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working in varying field environments, with or without reasonable accommodation.
