Intermediate Telecommunication System Specialist

We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Intermediate Telecommunications System Specialist to join our team on a full-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will primarily support telecommunications projects in the Trenton, Ontario area and will also be required to travel to project sites across Canada as operational requirements dictate.

The initial assignment is expected to support a national project with an anticipated duration of approximately two (2) years. Following completion of the project, the successful candidate will continue employment with the Company and may be assigned to other projects and locations based on business requirements.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Sixty (60) months of demonstrated experience in tasks related to installation activities defined below. The 60 months of experience may include up to 36 months of directly related education in the fields of Electrical Electronics or Lineman Technician training.
    • Use correct practices and procedures for structured cabling, cable harnesses, equipment, and equipment racks.
    • Troubleshoot and repair any installed communication device and cabling.
    • Perform corrective maintenance procedures on the existing installation.
    • Investigate, analyze, and carry out repairs on telecommunications equipment.
    • Test and evaluate telecommunications equipment after installation in accordance with the installation plan and post-installation engineering testing and evaluation procedures.
    • Use of Technical Data Package to complete installation activities and make drawing amendments and corrections as required.
    • Prepare and complete technical documentation pertaining to telecommunications equipment modifications.
  • Experience in the installation of telecommunications equipment, related cabling and systems.
  • Experience in diagnosing performance deficiencies, troubleshooting and repairing telecommunication equipment and related cabling and systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting drawings and technical schematics. As well, the proposed resources should demonstrate experience in documenting modifications and/or changes.
Qualifications — Education & Experience
  • Completion of Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or Lineman Technician training from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience installing telecommunications equipment, cabling, and related systems.
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining telecommunications equipment and associated infrastructure.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and installation documentation.
  • Experience documenting equipment modifications, design changes, and technical activities.
Required Certifications
  • WHMIS Certification.
  • Working at Heights Certification.
  • Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training (4 Steps).
  • Ability to safely work on ladders and elevated work platforms; project-specific training may be required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

All technicians are required to wear and maintain approved PPE in accordance with company and customer safety requirements, including:

  • CSA-approved safety footwear
  • Approved hard hat
  • Safety eyewear
  • High-visibility clothing
Technical Knowledge & Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other commonly used business software
  • Mechanically Inclined
  • Must be able to understand and carry out instructions well
  • Able to read & understand floor plans
  • Certified to work on ladders and man lifts
  • WHMIS certified
  • Understanding of OH&SA safety standards
