POSITION

DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor

PROGRAM: Substance Use Disorder Department (Winona/Caledonia)

JOB SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for the essential functions and the responsibilities listed below. This position provides substance use disorder treatment services to adults/adolescents/children in a 245G licensed outpatient substance use disorder treatment program, under the general supervision of the Treatment Director.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Complete substance use Comprehensive Assessments in relation to ASAM’s 6 Dimensions and DSM-5-TR criteria, collect available collateral information and make appropriate recommendations and referrals as needed.
  • Develop and implement integrated treatment plans, make referrals for appropriate treatment options, collaborate with HVMHC providers, probation, employers, educational entities, human services and other organizations regarding treatment plans, appropriate recommendations, treatment progress and discharge plans.
  • Provide Individual and Group Counseling to educate and assist individuals experiencing substance use disorders problems in recognizing and understanding the nature of their substance use problem.
  • Provide SUD Treatment Coordination to facilitate the treatment planning process and assist clients in accessing other health services and community resources.
  • Document the provision of treatment services and write weekly treatment plan reviews to document client progress, complete forms and maintain records and charts according to established procedures, guidelines and licensing requirements.
  • Participate in consultation with other health care professionals in order to discuss client care and progress. Attend departmental staff meetings to discuss client progress, treatment planning and recommendations.
  • Partner with community agencies and organizations, participate on interagency working committees, attend case conferences with other agencies and provide education and presentations as requested.
  • Attend conferences and meetings to keep abreast of current alcohol and substance use issues, treatment modalities and available services/resources.
  • Provide effective communication verbally and in writing.
  • Provide training to clinical staff and other agency personnel related to substance use.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
  • Participate in the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Normative Evaluation System (DAANES) by submitting information about each client to the commissioner in a manner prescribed by the commissioner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

Must be able to move in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must communicate with others and exchange information. The employee regularly operates equipment listed below on a daily basis. Occasional bending and lifting of office materials may be required.

- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform other duties as assigned by the SUD Treatment Director.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a human service-related field.
  • Minnesota Alcohol and Drug Counselor Licensure (LADC) or licensure eligible.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must hold a current certificate in CPR/AED/First Aid or be willing to obtain.
  • Employment requires successful completion of a background investigation.
