Assistant Aquatic Manager $18.00 per hour BOB WELCH AQUATIC CENTER JOB DUTIES

  • Assist Aquatic Manager with the training, supervising, and evaluating lifeguards, swim instructors and recreation staff.
  • Implement lifeguard rotation schedule, swim instructor schedule and recreation staff daily assignments.
    • When necessary, step in to cover schedule gaps as needed.
  • Monitor activities and provide instructions to prevent accidents in the aquatic facility.
  • Respond appropriately to swimmers in danger of drowning and to all illness and injury accidents around the entire aquatic facility immediately and appropriately.
    • This includes, but is not limited to performing Lifeguarding skills, First Aid, CPR, until the emergency medical services arrive.
  • Help record and organize accurate records including but not limited to attendance, daily logs accident/incident/injury reports and pool chemical reports.
  • Handle routine disciplinary issues and communicate with the Aquatic Manager and Recreation Coordinator when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly facility.
    • Inspect facility regularly and report any unsafe conditions/equipment to Aquatic Manager or Recreation Coordinator immediately.
  • Assist with planning, attend, and participate in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
  • Help promote all aquatic programs and memberships.
  • Maintain communication with guests, participants and/or participants’ parents and staff.
  • Set up and clean up the facility daily.
  • Help to operate and maintain the concession stand and staff.
  • Enforce all aquatics facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  • When necessary, instruct swimming lessons for participants of all ages.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including uniform requirements.
  • Assume full management responsibilities of the aquatic facility in the absence of the Aquatic Manager or Recreation Coordinator.
  • Complete additional duties assigned by supervisors.
  • Must possess current Lifeguarding certification.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED
  • Pre-employment/employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge (including but not limited to: swim 300 yards non-stop, ability to tread water for 2 minutes without hands, back-boarding skills, swim 20 yards, pick up a 10 pound brick off bottom and swim it back within 1 minute and 40 seconds, lifeguard written test)
  • Valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to provide leadership, command the respect of aquatics staff and guests, and be able to delegate duties when needed
  • Ability to work as an individual and within the framework of a team
  • Understand and abide by the City of Winona's cash handling procedures
  • Must be at least 18 years old
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Maturity and ability to handle responsibility
  • Communication and cooperation with supervisors and fellow workers
  • Ability to perform tasks of nominal difficulty and acquire limited skill to do work of the department
  • Physical strength and ability to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in adverse climatic conditions for extended periods of time
