Position
Description:
The Sheet Metal Journeyman/Foreman directs and oversees all activities related to assigned projects with their primary responsibility being to provide leadership to site crews and to ensure that project execution remains on track, to be completed on time and on budget, while ensuring the adherence to safe jobsite work practices.
Essential Functions
:
Management
- Review and understand project scope of work, blueprints, building codes and specifications to determine work details.
- Review and understand all submittals for the project.
- Plan work to ensure the most efficient use of available labor, tools and other resources.
- Review weekly labor analyses to ensure the project remains on schedule.
- Serve as a coach and mentor to journeyman, apprentices and laborers to motivate the crew and maintain a high employee morale.
- Discipline employees when necessary and issue written warnings when required.
- Promptly inform the HR Department of any employee issues including unacceptable behavior and attendance.
- Ensure vendors and subcontractors involved in the project are delivering and/or meeting their respective project items, punch lists and schedules so they are not negatively impacting the project.
- Create goodwill with customers by being responsive to their concerns while going above and beyond to assist in meeting their needs.
- Create and maintain a diversified work environment that is harassment free and in compliance with VHV’s company policy and all State and Federal regulations.
- Understand and report all issues or concerns that may fall under VHV’s harassment policy.
- Ensure all work performed is thorough and accurate.
- Ensure company tools, equipment, vehicles and property are cared for in an acceptable manner.
Administrative
- Complete the following weekly documentation in a timely manner:
- Timecards and employee expenses
- Cost analysis
- Safety toolbox talks
- T & M slips
- Pre-Task Plans
- Promptly inform the Safety Manager of any injuries that occur.
- Develop a good understanding of base contracts to help identify when work is outside of the initial defined scope.
- Coordinate material and equipment delivery with project team.
- Attend all job site and office meetings related to assigned projects
- Complete a daily job site report that provides a summary of work activities and who is on site
- Participate in employee evaluations and provide timely feedback to employees.
Safety
- Perform a daily site inspection to identify potential safety hazards and advise field workers and Safety Manager while working towards mitigation.
- Understand the proper use of all safety equipment and ensure crew are always using it correctly.
- Make sure job sites remain neat and orderly to avoid any potential safety hazards.
Qualifications &
Competencies:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Four plus years of experience in the mechanical/HVAC industry or related field.
- Must have or obtain NCCER Journey Worker Certification, or equivalent with a minimum of 10,000 on job hours.
- Be a mentor to laborers and apprentices.
- Ability to work in extreme weather/temperature conditions.
- Possess strong practical problem-solving skills.
- Maintain company provided tools in a safe and acceptable condition.
- Ensure conformance to all company, customer, state and federal safety regulations.
