Job Title: Automation Engineer
Department: Project Integrations
Reports To: Automation Group Manager
Type: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: 40+ hours per week
Pay Range: $30.00 – $45.00/hour

Position Description

The Automation Engineer performs engineering of HVAC Controls, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), and Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2‑5 years in HVAC/BAS/EMS/DDC, sales, estimating, and application systems engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, control drawings, plans and specifications, and sequence of operations.
  • Develop control drawings, sequence of operations, graphical interfaces.
  • HVAC systems knowledge.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Word, Excel, Visio preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Essential Functions
  • Well versed in all aspects of HVAC Building Automation, Energy Management, Systems Integrations, Direct Digital Controls.
  • Understands advanced control systems, sequence of operations, IT networks, and smart HVAC equipment.
  • Experience with estimating software is a plus.
  • Field experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Tridium, Niagara, ABB/Cylon, Johnson Controls Facility Explorer or other control systems manufacturers is a plus.
  • Collaborate with the Automation Group Manager to assure that the company has in place processes and tools in line with industry best practices.
  • Drive the implementation of appropriate technology throughout the Automation Group and company.
  • Collaborate with all departments within the organization to assist in lead generation, opportunity execution, while assisting with the overall sales to operations strategy.
  • Participate in project sales and the identification of sales targets.
  • Ability to interpret plans and specifications documents.
  • Prepare estimates, bids and proposals.
  • Coordinate estimates and control system design with the Construction/Design‑build/Service sales teams.
  • Daily interaction with estimating and sales personnel, consultants, etc.
  • Participate in sales presentation as a technical resource as needed, to include presentations to facility owners and operators, consulting engineers and contractors.
  • Participate in on‑site pre‑bid and pre‑construction meetings as needed.
  • Participate in project close‑out/review meetings.
  • Assist the Service Manager with the preparation of BAS/DDC retrofit and upgrade estimates.
  • Review and pre‑approve engineer submittals, bill of materials, control drawings and O&M Manuals with controls system team.
  • Conduct “project turn‑over” meetings with Senior controls Service Technicians and Automation Field Installers.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Predominately sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (67% – 100%) of the workday.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to local as well as remote locations (out of town, out of state) for short and/or extended periods of time.
  • Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to see well.
  • Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects.
  • Lift and carry supplies and materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist.
  • Wear the proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, safety glasses, and gloves if visiting a job site.
