The ER Technician, under the supervision of the ED RN, Nursing Manager, ED provider and CNO, is responsible for monitoring and treating patients in the emergency department. In addition, the ERT monitors and prepares supplies and equipment for interventions, uses appropriate and competent techniques, assists with procedures, provides technical services as assigned or directed within the scope of practice of their license or certification, assists with data collection and documentation of patient monitoring, and maintains LCMCs customer service standards.
Responsibilities- Able to follow and be familiar with hospital policies and procedures.
- Practice within acceptable ethical and legal parameters and demonstrate an awareness and sensitivity of confidential information.
- Adhere to LCMCs customer service standards to promote a positive and professional relationship with our customers who include patients, family members, visitors, medical staff and hospital staff.
- Work as a team member.
- Able to work varying shifts, rotate days off and work weekends.
- Able to relate to and work with ill and disabled patients of all types with varying medical and mental conditions.
- Able to read, write and speak English in an understandable manner.
- Able to write legibly.
- Able to use competent computer skills including email, Microsoft, LCMC computer applications and EMR.
- Possess visual and hearing acuity.
- Able to deal with high stress and high demand work environment and cope with unpredictable situations tactfully and professionally.
- Be able to recognize, prioritize and address changing patient needs.
- Maintain constant communication with RN regarding patient care, treatment and changes in condition.
- Assist patients with toileting and any other ADLs and comfort needs.
- Maintain par levels in all patient care levels and re‑stock when needed.
- Order labs, x‑rays, answer phones, assist with the start of the triage process through information and vital sign gathering.
- Assist arriving ambulance, Provider, and RN, as directed, in the initial stabilization of the patients.
- Record and obtain vital signs on the patients and report any abnormal to nurse or provider.
- Assist RN with keeping charts and paperwork orderly.
- Assist with transfers as directed by the RN or MD.
- Gather patient information, chief complaints, vital signs, pain, allergies, medications and history in triage.
- Assist RN with any patient care needs.
- Provide monitoring of patients when being taken to ancillary areas for testing or being taken to be admitted to nursing floor, as directed by RN.
- Keep all areas of ED clean and organized.
- Other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent, Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program (CNA/LNA) or an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program.
Computer SkillsModerate computer skills with the ability to utilize an EMR.
Experience6 months direct patient care (pre-hospital or hospital).
Preferred- Licenses:
Active, current EMT or LNA/CNA license or certification. - Certifications:
BLS required PHYSICAL.
- Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing/walking and the ability to lift and move 25 pounds. - Must comply with all required health assessments, immunizations and testing – required. Work environment is in acute patient care and involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials, infections, noxious odors and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
