Streets Maintenance Worker
Under basic supervision, the Streets Maintenance Worker performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City street and storm drainage facilities and systems. This position is a tentative "At-Will" appointment and subject to a probationary period of six (6) months from the date of hire.
Upon successful completion of a probationary period, a non-management employee shall be granted regular status in the classification in which the probationary period is served.

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours.
Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintains and repairs curbs, sidewalks, gutters, and water boxes; cuts and patches asphalt; seals cracks.
- Paints school zones, curbs, and crosswalks; covers graffiti.
- Maintains and replaces signs and poles as needed; may participate in street sign fabrication.
- Participates in City park beautification and maintenance; mows grass, prunes plants, and cuts weeds; replaces park and streetlights.
- Maintains ditches and alleyways; removes weeds and brush.
- Inspects and repairs streets and drainage systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
- Drives trucks of various sizes and weights; participates in loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand.
- Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
- Conducts traffic control duties at work sites and for emergencies and special events.
- Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisors; cleans equipment.
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards; maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, and street signage.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects.
- Performs related duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge of:
- Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Materials, methods, and techniques used in the construction and maintenance of streets.
- Work safety policies, procedures, practices, and equipment.
- Records maintenance policies and procedures.
Skill in:
- Caring for and using tools and equipment used in installing and maintaining streets.
- Following written and verbal instructions.
- Maintaining accurate records and logs.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or GED equivalent AND three (3) years of experience relating to the maintenance and repair of streets, curbs, and gutters; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license. An Inmate Supervision certification may be required.
Physical Demands/Working EnvironmentWork is performed outdoors at various locations throughout the City and requires exposure to various weather conditions and potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery. May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
