Position Summary

Winston-Salem State University ( WSSU ) is seeking an Accounts Payable Manager.
The Accounts Payable Manager reports to the Controller and supervises three Account Technicians. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight for the institution’s accounts payable and disbursement operations. The Accounts Payable Manager will oversee the daily operations ensuring the accurate and timely processing of invoices, check disbursements, travel and expense reimbursements. The role collaborates closely with campus departments to promote a seamless financial experience for vendors while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations.
Responsibilities of the Accounts Payable Manager include:
- Lead, supervise, coach, and evaluate Accounts Payable staff to ensure efficient and accurate operations.
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, payment approvals, check runs, ACH transactions, wire transfers, and employee reimbursements.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with accounting policies.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships by resolving payment inquiries and discrepancies promptly.
- Coordinate annual IRS Form 1099 reporting and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations.
- Develop, implement, and document accounts payable policies, procedures, and workflow improvements.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline Accounts Payable processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with Purchasing, Finance, Budget, and operational departments to resolve issues and improve business processes.
