The Director of Finance oversees all core accounting functions for the organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records while supporting regulatory compliance, audits, budgeting, and strategic financial decision-making.
Working closely and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance provides financial leadership and operational support to community leaders and corporate leadership, ensuring sound fiscal management across multiple communities and programs.

** This role is on-site, five days per week, at our Corporate Office in Winston Salem, NC**
- Provides supervision to the Finance Team.
- Oversee and manage all monthly accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly balance sheet schedules to ensure financial accuracy and data integrity.
- Coordinate with the CFO to prepare, review, and distribute financial statements, including Balance Sheets, Statements of Operations, and Cash Flow reports.
- Support and oversee accounting sub-systems, serving as backup as needed, and ensure accurate integration with the general ledger.
- Maintain oversight of deferred revenue, fixed assets, resident trust fund accounts, and donor-related financial activity.
- Assist with regulatory and compliance reporting, including Cost Reports, Form 990 filings, CMS PBJ submissions, and other required disclosures.
- Coordinate and support independent audits, providing schedules, documentation, and responses as requested.
- Assist the CFO with annual budget preparation, forecasting, and ongoing financial analysis.
- Review accounts payable batches for coding accuracy and compliance prior to processing and payment.
- Support resident financial processes, including financial applications for prospective residents and reimbursement reconciliations.
- Develop and improve accounting templates, workflows, and processes to enhance operational efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Collaborate with Community leaders and executive leadership on reporting, finance materials, and financial communications.
- Practice and promote continuous improvement in financial operations, controls, and reporting processes.
- Complies with all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including HIPAA and the Code of Conduct, completing required training and reporting concerns promptly.
- Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate office equipment (e.g. keyboard, mouse, phone).
- Frequently required to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally.
- Frequently required to concentrate on tasks involving moderate to fine detail with some to constant interruption.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, or reach during filing or office activities.
- Occasionally required to lift or carry items up to 15 lbs. (e.g. office supplies, small packages).
- Visual acuity required to read printed and digital documents.
- Must be able to respond to urgent finance matters via phone or on-site after hours.

Work Environment- Frequently works indoors in a climate-controlled professional office setting.
- Frequently exposed to standard office noise such as phone conversations, printers, and background chatter.

- Occasionally exposed to dust, odors, or minimal outdoor conditions.
- Rarely travels between Thrive More communities (5-10%).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
- Experience overseeing accounts payable, payroll, reconciliations, and balance sheet management.
- Proficiency with accounting systems, financial software, and Microsoft Office (Excel required).
- CPA certification
- Experience in senior living, healthcare, long-term care, or nonprofit environments.
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting (Cost Reports, Form 990, CMS/PBJ reporting).
