Are you a strategic financial leader with a passion for leadership, process improvement, and operational excellence? Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is seeking an Accounts Payable Manager.
The Accounts Payable Manager reports to the Controller and supervises three Account Technicians. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight for the institution's accounts payable and disbursement operations. The Accounts Payable Manager will oversee the daily operations ensuring the accurate and timely processing of invoices, check disbursements, travel and expense reimbursements. The role collaborates closely with campus departments to promote a seamless financial experience for vendors while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations.
Responsibilities- Lead, supervise, coach, and evaluate Accounts Payable staff to ensure efficient and accurate operations.
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, payment approvals, check runs, ACH transactions, wire transfers, and employee reimbursements.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with accounting policies.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships by resolving payment inquiries and discrepancies promptly.
- Coordinate annual IRS Form 1099 reporting and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations.
- Develop, implement, and document accounts payable policies, procedures, and workflow improvements.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline Accounts Payable processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with Purchasing, Finance, Budget, and operational departments to resolve issues and improve business processes.
- Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in accounting; or Associate's degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
- 2 years of progressively responsible accounts payable or accounting experience.
- 4 years of progressively responsible accounts payable or accounting experience.
- 2 years of supervisory or management experience leading an accounts payable team or similar accounting staff.
- Prior experience with Ellucian Banner is preferred, but not required.
