It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description Of WorkReporting to the Business Officer at a multi-custody male correctional facility, this position serves in the lead capacity over other administrative positions assigned to Central Prison’s Mailroom. Job duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervising as well as processing, reviewing, and distributing all incoming/outgoing mail, packages, legal, certified, and courier mail.
- Maintaining security of the facility by searching/reviewing all incoming/outgoing mail for unauthorized items/contraband, and correspondence deemed a threat to the safety, security, and orderly function of the facility.
- Overseeing typical processing of over 850 pieces of mail and interoffice correspondence daily.
- Requiring one-on-one contact with offenders.
- Requiring lifting of mail bags and packages up to 50 pounds.
- Coordinating and reviewing work with others to ensure accuracy and compliance with established guidelines.
- Correcting specific problems or delays using direction and guidelines from the supervisor.
- Providing on-the-job training for new staff.
This position will require the ability to obtain Notary Certification within 6-months of hire.
(Salary Range: $33,902 - $59,327)

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Central Prison
Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers.
