You will be working at one of the following Rebuild sites in Western North Carolina:
- Watauga County (Boone, NC)
- Buncombe County (Asheville, NC)
- Yancey County (Burnsville, NC)
A day in the life of a Construction Worker:
At Samaritan's Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do! We start each day with a time of devotions and spend time praying for each other, our staff and volunteers who serve around the globe.
In the role of a Construction Worker you will have the opportunity to:
- Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
- Work jointly with the Project Superintendent, Construction Foremen, and Logistics Coordinators to construct and/or repair both stick built homes and manufactured homes in the affected area
- Work with and lead volunteers
- Apply your construction abilities to set up mobile homes as part of our manufactured home replacement program for victims of natural disasters
- Work with other construction workers and hired subcontractors when needed
- Ensure the quality of each project is maintained to the highest possible standard
- Provide safety training and general project training for team members at the job site and assure all work is done according to safety standards
- Maintain security of all materials and equipment at job sites
- Ensure quality and adherence to Samaritans Purse policies from hired subcontractors
- Inspect all jobs, ensuring work is performed per federal, state, and local laws and codes
- Communicate and minister to homeowners and partners, keeping them informed of the team's work and projected needs
- One-year certificate from college or technical school and three (3) to six (6) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to obtain a driver’s medical card (required)
- Trade certifications (electrical, plumbing, roofing, framing, and finish carpentry) (preferred)
- Class A Commercial Drivers License (preferred)
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of residential home construction, from layout and foundation work to final inspection
