Overview

The Forsyth County Department of Public Health, Cleveland Avenue Dental Center is seeking a part-time Dental Hygienist to work with a supportive dental team in a community health care setting. Work includes assisting in the oral health management of all clinical patients to include adults and children. The Dental Hygienist will obtain baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care.

The Hygienist must be knowledgeable and able to complete the required documentation for the patients' electronic dental record to reflect the nature of condition, care, and/or treatment needed and provided.

Start date for this position will be on or after July 1, 2025.

Typical Work Schedule

Monday & Wednesday: 8:00 a.m.

- 5:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m.

- 11:00 a.m.

Qualifications / Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to gain the cooperation of the patient to elicit required information;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and interpret & maintain accurate records and reports;
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public & diverse populations;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations & making decisions;
  • Ability to work well with others;
  • Customer service skills and;
  • Computer & electronic medical records skills (Knowledge of Dentrix software is preferred).
  • Graduation from an accredited two-year program of Dental Hygiene and licensed to practice as a Dental Hygienist in North Carolina.
  • Dentrix software experience preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Assesses patients' oral health condition;
  • Reviews health histories;
  • Completes oral cancer screening (including head & neck examination);
  • Completes dental charts;
  • Communicates with the Dentist;
  • Performs prophylaxis;
  • Performs scaling, root planing, and full mouth debridements;
  • Completes full mouth charting (probing depths) & placement of sealants;
  • Takes & processes Scan-X radiographs;
  • Completes oral hygiene instruction;
  • Discusses smoke cessation and nutrition concerns with patients;
  • Cleans room and prepares it for next patient;
  • Assists with sterilization of instruments.
