This is a full-time on-site role for an Aviation Technology Instructor at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. The Aviation Technology Instructor will be responsible for developing curriculum, designing instructional materials, conducting training, and delivering education in the field of aviation technology. Career Center's Aviation Technology program is one of just a small number in the state of North Carolina. This two-year program is based on the FAA'S Airframe and Powerplant certifications this course blueprint is developed from.
The program seeks to encourage, expose, and develop the employability skills of aspiring aviation and airspace workforce thus creating a pathway for our high school students to continue training or higher education in the field of aviation or aerospace. The Career Center High School Aviation Technology program utilizes its partnership with Tango Fight to have students build an RV-12iS airplane and other hands-on learning/training activities based on the supporting curriculum based on Federal Aviation Administration standards for Airframe and Powerplant certification.
Applicants should have a strong background in aviation. Applicants that hold at least an FAA A&P certification or have experience in building experimental aircraft are sought. Strong applicants will a have a background in a career in aviation or other technology related field such as engineering, mechanics, or a technical trade that can received a North Carolina teaching license if applicant does not already hold one.
A strong desire to share their passion for aviation and aerospace is a must. Applicants should have a strong ability teach and explain complex mechanics, physics of flight, and FAA regulations pertaining to maintenance of aircraft. Candidates that have a passion for teaching others will also have some background knowledge of manufacturing processes with aviation as this applicant is expected to lead a team of students each day in building an RV-12iS aircraft with support from Tango Flight (a WS/FCS Education Partner).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Instruction and Curriculum Development
* Develop and implement lesson plans that meet state and industry standards.
* Teach both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in the classroom and lab/shop.
* Integrate real-world applications into the curriculum to prepare students for careers.
* Ensure safety protocols are followed in lab/shop environments.
* Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
* Lab/Shop Management
* Oversee the maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of the lab/shop area.
* Ensure that equipment is functioning correctly and is up to industry standards.
* Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and materials.
* Implement safety procedures and protocols, including training students on proper equipment use.
* Student Assessment and Support
* Assess students' skills through practical and written evaluations.
* Track student progress and adjust instruction as necessary to ensure mastery of skills.
* Provide guidance and support to students pursuing certifications or internships.
* Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
* Relationship Building with Higher Education Institutions
* Collaborate with local community colleges, universities, and technical schools to create pathways for students.
* Establish dual-credit or articulation agreements to help students earn college credits while in high school.
* Work with faculty at higher education institutions to align curriculum and skillsets with post-secondary expectations.
* Industry Partnerships
* Build relationships with local businesses and industry representatives to stay current on workforce needs.
* Establish an advisory board of industry experts to guide curriculum development and ensure it meets industry standards.
* Organize internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing opportunities for students.
* Seek input from industry advisors to continuously improve the program and ensure it aligns with real-world expectations.
