Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Emergency Medical Services supports the administrative, instructional, and quality‑assurance functions of EMS courses offered through the Continuing Education Division, as well as the Emergency Medical Science program within the Academic Programs Division. This role assists in maintaining full program accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Emergency Medical Services Professionals (CoAEMSP) and contributes to the overall effectiveness and compliance of all EMS‑related programming.
Responsibilities include providing direct classroom instruction to students, ensuring all courses meet State and National EMS standards, developing course schedules, syllabi, goals, and objectives in alignment with the College Program Review process, and establishing and enforcing rules and regulations that guide student behavior.
The Assistant Director also contributes to curriculum and course development, including the creation of new program offerings, and supports the academic infrastructure by building and grading courses, performing data entry and filing, completing class visitations and course evaluations, and coordinating facility scheduling. Additionally, the position assists in managing and delivering programs associated with the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross.
Required Education/
Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree awarded by a regionally‑accredited college or university in a related field or Bachelor’s degree awarded by a regionally‑accredited college or university.
- Minimum three years full‑time work experience as a Paramedic, two years of teaching experience, and two years of leadership experience.
- Hold current Level I North Carolina Paramedic Instructor Certification with expectation to acquire Level II North Carolina Paramedic Instructor Certification within 18 months.
- Be knowledgeable concerning current state & national curricula, accreditation, registration, and the requirements for state certification or licensure.
Preferred Education/Experience/
Skills:
- Minimum five years full‑time work experience as a Paramedic, two years of teaching experience, and two years of leadership experience.
- Hold current Level II North Carolina Paramedic Instructor Certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Good Team Player, articulate, positive role‑model for the students and staff, ability to get along well with others. Respected as a leader within the EMS Community.

Main office is located on North campus, but travel between campuses is necessary.
