Through data‑driven assessment and strategic programming, this role ensures Housing and Residence Life supports institutional student success goals. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life.

Position Summary

The Department of Housing and Residence Life at Winston‑Salem State University is excited to invite applications for the position of Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives, Curriculum, and Assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Area Coordinator caseloads through Maxient Student Conduct software
  • Cooperate with the Office of Student Rights, Responsibilities & Conduct on all departmental student conduct matters
  • Train staff on processes and procedures involving student conduct matters
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Residential Curriculum and Curricular Approaches
  • Coordinate intervention steps with academically at‑risk students.
  • Coordinate the overall direction and evaluation of departmental efforts designed to encourage residential students to remain engaged in the residence halls and on campus.
  • Assist in the coordination of comprehensive and developmental educational opportunities
  • Coordinate and manage all departmental assessment efforts including the first‑year pre and post‑tests, 12 days of survey, ACUHO‑I Campus Index, etc., interpreting and presenting results and data.
  • Implement creative and innovative methods of developing connections between residents
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Residential Curriculum and Curricular Approaches
  • Foster an environment where the academic success of residents can be maximized and realized
  • Partner with departmental and campus partners in the development of Living‑Learning Communities
  • Assist staff with the development of relationships with WSSU PD, Ram Assist, and other offices necessary to manage crisis situations
  • Ensure that staff maintain awareness of campus response protocols and resources
  • Participating in year‑round duty rotation that provides support to the staff and residential population
