School/Department InformationWithin the Division of Student Affairs, the area of Residence Life oversees residential spaces that house approximately 626 residential college and 200+ high school students. The Department of Residence Life cooperates with the campus at large to create a community environment conducive to personal and professional growth unique to high school students in a residential arts conservatory educational setting.
Residence Life staff working with UNCSA’s residential high school population serve as “live-in” peer educators, administrators, resource persons, and counselors. These staff advocate for the enrichment of high school student artists’ experiences by promoting self-awareness, providing healthy social opportunities, identifying resources for success, and presenting educational programs focused on developing lifelong skills.
These staff strive to foster an environment that gives commuter and residential high school students an opportunity to be innovative, creative, and reach their fullest potential and are committed to proactively and efficiently addressing students’ residential and social needs by creating a safe and healthy living and learning environment.
Primary Description of WorkThe Director of High School Life is a full-time, 12-month position , live on position, reporting to the Assistant Dean of High School Life and is responsible for assisting in the leadership of the high school life component of a comprehensive high school housing and residential education program. The operation includes two high school residence halls:
Moore and Sanford Hall.
This position assists in supervising, guiding and supporting seven professional live-in staff (Community Coordinators), Activities Coordinator, Administrative Support Specialist, and part-time staff in their duties in pursuit of institutional, divisional and departmental missions.
Work Schedule and hoursSunday-Saturday, flexible evenings and weekends with some hours during the day, and on-call responsibilities on rotational basis
Mostly traditional hours during 8-5 work days for staff meetings, office hours, required dept. & division meetings. Nontraditional hours on nights, weekends, all-play days, or on-call duty responsibilities as needed.
