Job Description Summary

The Instructional Support Tutor plays a critical, student-centered role in supporting the implementation of the WSFCS or High School. This position is embedded within partner Mt. Tabor High School and serves as an extension of the instructional team, providing consistent, on‑site academic and engagement support for students enrolled in Foundations of Algebra and Math 1 at the support site.

While the Instructional Support Tutor maintains responsibility for course support and oversight, the Instructional Support reinforces learning through tutoring, facilitation of student engagement, and support with assignment completion. This role ensures that students, particularly those facing comprehension issues, receive timely, hands‑on support that promotes confidence, persistence, and academic success.

In addition to academic support, the Instructional Support Tutor contributes to the overall student experience by assisting with in class assignments, critical thinking assignments, test prep, digital literacy, serving as a liaison between students, faculty, and advising teams or High School.

This position is grant‑funded through 03/31/2027.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required.

Note:

Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC .

• Experience in tutoring, teaching, academic support, or working with high school or college students.
• Demonstrated ability to support student learning and engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, a content area, or a related field.

Note:

Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC .

• Experience working in dual enrollment, early college, or secondary and post-secondary partnerships.
• Experience supporting first‑generation or underserved student populations.

Under the leadership and approval of the Dean and Vice President the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities will be assigned (other duties may be assigned):

• Provide daily, on‑site academic support to students enrolled in Math 1 courses
• Reinforce course concepts through one‑on‑one and small group tutoring sessions.
• Assist students with assignment completion, study strategies, and time management.
• Encourage students to retain information taught
• Encourage student engagement, participation, and accountability in their academic setting.

• Support the Instructor of Support by reinforcing lesson objectives and clarifying course expectations.
• Assist in maintaining a productive and focused classroom environment.
• Help monitor student progress and identify areas where additional support is needed.
• Provide feedback to instructors regarding student engagement and comprehension trends.

• Identify early signs of academic difficulty and create learning strategies
• Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and advising teams to support holistic student success.
• Guide students in developing effective study habits, organizational skills, and independent learning strategies.

• Collaborate with high school staff, college faculty, and Academic Success Center personnel to ensure coordinated support services.
