Wake Forest University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music, starting July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in music history and culture, focusing on American, global, or popular music, and develop new courses on Black musical thought and history. They will also participate in the First Year Seminar program and engage in scholarly activities and university service.
Performance instruction may be included based on the candidate's strengths, though it is not a requirement. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in musicology, ethnomusicology, or a related field by the first year of appointment, with ABD candidates also encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Black American music and contribute to African and African diaspora studies, while also engaging in original research and scholarship in these areas.
