WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’s Department of Anthropology invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Anthropological Archaeology, effective July 1, 2027. We seek highly qualified candidates with a research focus within the archaeology of the Americas, and who have a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.

Qualifications :
An earned Ph.D. in Anthropology is required for the position; ABD candidates are invited to apply. Qualified applicants will demonstrate their ability to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in archaeology, initiate and sustain original research and scholarship in their area(s) of expertise, and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth for all its stakeholders.

Position Summary : This individual will be expected to teach introductory and upper-level courses in archaeology at the undergraduate level, engage in scholarly activities, participate in departmental, College, and University service, and contribute to the University’s community outreach efforts. The current teaching load is 2/2.

We are interested in teacher-scholars who complement the expertise of our current faculty. Applicants should have an ongoing program of research that is theoretically engaged and with potential for undergraduate student engagement. Geographic area within the Americas is preferred.

Wake Forest’s four-field anthropology department consists of nine permanent faculty and three professional museum staff. Seventy-one percent of majors participate in field- or lab-based research and 31% present original research at professional conferences. Students and faculty also engage with our award-winning and dynamic Lam Museum of Anthropology. Our department has strong interdisciplinary relationships with Latin American and Latino Studies;
Environmental Studies;
Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies;
Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies;
Linguistics;
African American Studies;
