Seeking a Mid-Level Geologist for the Wilmington, NC office. The role requires a motivated candidate capable of learning quickly, developing both field and analytical skills, and working as part of a team.
Job Responsibilities- Coordinate and collect field data within a project team environment
- Lead Health and Safety Plan preparation, daily safety meetings, and OSHA, HAZWOPER, and site-specific safety training
- Perform surface water, groundwater, and drinking water monitoring and soil sampling in accordance with field training and procedures
- Conduct water quality testing and measurement
- Calibrate instruments and maintain records
- Operate and maintain water testing equipment such as peristaltic pumps, bladder pumps, submersible pumps, water quality meters, handheld GPSs, and PIDs
- Collect and handle laboratory samples
- Manage subcontractors including laboratories, drillers, remediation specialists, waste disposal, and supply vendors
- Observe and oversee drilling activities including soil/rock coring, installation of monitoring wells, installation and maintenance of remedial systems, and injections
- Perform detailed geologic logging of sediments and rock during subsurface investigations
- Conduct detailed site assessments and investigations for environmental sites
- Summarize and interpret environmental data on maps and cross-sections
- Prepare, review, and validate analytical laboratory data
- Interpret field and analytical data for modeling trends
- Write technical regulatory reports
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Environmental Engineering
- Five or more years of professional experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Positive attitude
- Ability to multi-task
- Knowledge of regulatory programs (CERCLA, RCRA, NC 2L GWQS)
- Strong work ethic and desire for continual self-improvement
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Willingness and ability to perform outdoor field work and travel
- Physical ability to lift 60 pounds and navigate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside
- Prior professional work in related fields such as water sampling, drilling, field documentation, laboratory analysis, remediation, etc
- Experience using Excel, EQuIS, ArcGIS, giNT
- Ability to pass a background check, which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment screening
Pay range: $73,000 to $110,000, depending on experience and location. Competitive and equitable compensation is offered regardless of location.
