HDR is looking for a Utility Management Consultant to join our North Carolina Water Business Group. This position may be based out of any of our NC offices:
Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston‑Salem, Asheville, or Wilmington. As a Utility Management Consultant in our Water Business Group, you'll be the cornerstone of our project delivery, overseeing and supporting both small‑scale single‑discipline planning efforts and large, multi‑disciplinary design projects. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on managing details, building strong client relationships, and leading talented technical teams.
- Serve as a strategic expert with recognized authority in water and wastewater systems and utility operations.
- Provide professional consultation around asset management, operational, and water and wastewater infrastructure challenges.
- Plan, direct, and manage projects to solve water and wastewater utility challenges.
- Plan, organize, and supervise the work of staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
- Serve as Project Manager on projects as needed, including tracking project budgets, monitoring financial performance, and aligning resources to keep deliverables on time and within scope.
- Build and maintain lasting client relationships, taking part in marketing, contract negotiations, and project delivery meetings.
- Lead internal and external meetings, workshops, and technical discussions to align stakeholders and drive progress.
- Perform technical analyses and prepare clear, concise technical reports.
- Mentor and provide leadership to junior staff with a focus on developing strong technical skills in water/wastewater engineering.
- Support firm‑wide initiatives and perform additional responsibilities as needed.
- Master's degree in engineering, Business, or Related Field
- Knowledge of ArcGIS, Power BI, and/or SQL Server
- Experience in the A/E/C industry, local candidates are preferred
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- A minimum of 5 years related experience
- Efficient use of the internet and other electronic and hard copy media for research
- Strong Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Visio skills
- Expert Microsoft Access and Excel skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and present summary level information
- Ability to obtain, cleanse, merge and analyze data from multiple sources
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong relationship, organizational and follow-up skills
- Self‑starter with proven track record of accomplishments
