Optomi, in partnership with a leading utility organization, is seeking a Power Engineer in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Position Summary:

This is a hybrid opportunity in downtown Raleigh, requiring three days onsite each week.

This is a 12-month contract opportunity that will be reviewed annually for renewal. The position also requires approximately 5–10% travel throughout Eastern North Carolina and Northeastern South Carolina for site visits and implementations.

This is a true engineering and delivery role responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and documenting complex AC and DC power solutions supporting telecommunications infrastructure.

Must-Haves:
  • Direct power-engineering experience within a telecommunications, carrier, or utility environment
  • Strong knowledge of AC and DC power systems
  • Hands-on experience with telecom DC plant systems, rectifiers, batteries, fuses, and battery monitoring
  • Experience engineering UPS systems and backup power solutions
  • Experience with 240/120V AC and 48V or 130V DC power systems
  • Familiarity with backup generators and grounding standards for communications sites
  • Ability to design, test, document, and deliver complete telecom power solutions
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Additional

Experience:
  • Eltek, Vertiv, Powerware, or Delta DC plant and UPS systems
  • Environmental and alarm-monitoring systems
  • Telecommunications shelters, towers, and remote sites
  • Utility or carrier-company environments
  • Basic TCP/IP, routing, and switching knowledge
  • Cisco, Opengear, Net Guardian, Cambium, Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent, or Ciena equipment
  • Service Now, Jira, Kanban, or Agile engineering practices
  • Network automation, programming, or scripting
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Professional Engineer registration in North Carolina
  • Engineering Fundamentals exam completion
  • Project planning and project-management experience
Main Responsibilities:
  • Design AC and DC power solutions for telecommunications infrastructure
  • Support net-new greenfield installations and complete system refreshes
  • Evaluate existing power systems, identify deficiencies, and design remediation solutions
  • Engineer upgrades involving UPS systems, panels, batteries, rectifiers, fuses, grounding, and monitoring
  • Prepare detailed engineering job packages with equipment lists, installation instructions, drawings, network diagrams, and shelf layouts
  • Develop cost estimates, economic studies, and work orders for planned installations
  • Coordinate implementations with engineers, electricians, installation teams, and field personnel
  • Test completed solutions and maintain accurate engineering documentation
  • Ensure designs are reliable, efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with business needs
  • Provide advanced technical support to NOC, installation, and maintenance teams
  • Develop processes and documentation that enable first- and second-level teams to resolve support issues
  • Travel to regional sites as needed to evaluate conditions and support implementations
