This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position in the Goldsboro Construction Resident Engineer’s Office. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspection and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work functions may include inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data;

testing of materials; review and interpret design plans; analysis of engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include construction layout, measuring, staking, marking, and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required

Additional expectations include the ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation; establish and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors and public. Ability to traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Ability to work near high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished.

Safety-toed shoes required.
** Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Prospective drivers must meet the following standards to be eligible to operate NCDOT vehicles:
• No more than two convictions of moving violations within the past three years.
• No convictions of an alcohol or drug related traffic offense within the past five years.
• Valid, current North Carolina driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated (

Note:

Employees permanently residing in adjacent states may operate a DOT vehicle using a current, valid, appropriate driver's license from their state of residence.)
• If a driver applicant has possessed an out-of-state driver’s license in the past ten years, the driver’s record from the state(s) involved shall be obtained. Such applicants and those who currently possess an out-of-state driver’s license will be responsible for providing their driving records from the appropriate states.

/Management Preferences Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC07 $ 37,377 - $65,408

Management prefers applicants with the following:

Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.

Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.

Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
