Are you a strategic, hands‑on accounting leader who thrives in a mission‑driven healthcare environment? Trellis Supportive Care is seeking an experienced Controller to manage the day‑to‑day accounting, budgeting, billing, and collections functions of the Agency while partnering closely with the Director of Finance and the Chief Financial Officer to ensure sound fiscal stewardship of our resources. This is an opportunity to combine financial expertise with meaningful impact—supporting compassionate hospice and supportive care services in our community.
Position OverviewThe Controller provides leadership and oversight of all accounting operations, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This role plays a critical part in financial planning, audit coordination, budget development, and performance analysis—while fostering a collaborative, accountable team culture.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Month‑End Close- Lead monthly close process and produce accurate financial statements by the 12th business day
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintain strong internal controls
- Oversee general ledger, bank reconciliations, payables, and accounting systems
- Monitor operating results against budget and educate leadership on significant variances
- Ensure timely vendor payments and discount capture
- Partner with the Director & CFO on maintaining accounting policies and procedures
- Manage development of the annual budget
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements
- Oversee annual audit and serve as liaison to external auditors
- Coordinate preparation and filing of Form 990 and Medicare Cost Reports
- Assist with Medicare CAP reports, CON filings, and annual license renewals
- Ensure timely state sales tax reporting and receivable tracking
- Plan and monitor capital and operational expenditures
- Identify cost‑saving opportunities and improve departmental efficiencies
- Research vendors and obtain quotes for purchases over $500
- Analyze financial impact of strategic decisions and long‑term planning
- Manage staffing productivity benchmarks and overtime costs
- Inspire and empower accounting staff to meet agency goals
- Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate team members
- Conduct regular team meetings and performance evaluations
- Ensure HR documentation is completed accurately and timely
- Serve as liaison to Board Committees as requested
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and compassion
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
- CPA strongly preferred
- Minimum six (6) years of relevant accounting experience
- Healthcare accounting experience strongly preferred
- Prior supervisory experience required
- Strategic financial insight balanced with operational execution
