Job SummaryThe Cancer Education Specialist plays a critical role in reducing the burden of cancer across the 30-county catchment area by delivering evidence-based education and prevention programs. Embedded in the community, this position serves as a trusted partner to advance AHWFBCCC’s mission through culturally responsive education, outreach events, and research engagement. The role fosters bi-directional relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to improve access to cancer-related services, address barriers to care, and ensure programs reflect local priorities.
Through proactive education initiatives, this position supports early detection, promotes informed decision‑making, and strengthens participation in research and clinical trials—all guided by the ‘loved one standard’ to ensure compassionate, respectful interactions.
- Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience required.
- Master’s degree in health administration, business administration, public health, or related field preferred.
- Minimum two years in project or program management, development, administration, or supervisory roles.
- Experience in community health education or cancer prevention preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- CHES certification is preferred but not required.
- Design, coordinate, and evaluate community-based cancer education programs tailored to catchment area needs.
- Develop initiatives promoting prevention, early detection, and normalizing research.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable tasks, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
- Represent AHWFBCCC at health fairs, community events, and coalition meetings.
- Lead and monitor education initiatives (e.g., CARES seminars, COE signature events).
- Serve as liaison and spokesperson, building long‑term, bi‑directional relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.
- Actively engage with the Community Advisory Board to integrate community input into programming.
- Collect and analyze education and outreach data using REDCap or similar systems.
- Prepare reports for leadership and CCSG compliance, including metrics for outreach and engagement.
- Ensure data integrity for institutional quality improvement and research support.
- Ensure adherence to institutional and sponsor regulations, including National Cancer Institute requirements.
- Promote informed decision‑making and ethical standards in education and engagement.
- Apply the ‘loved one standard’ in all interactions to ensure compassionate, respectful care.
- Supervise interns and support personnel as needed.
- Develop educational materials, presentations, and digital tools to support education initiatives.
- Collaborate across Research, Academics, Clinical Operations, and Education teams to integrate community insights into institutional priorities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with high burden populations and address barriers to care.
- Project management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data tracking systems (e.g., REDCap).
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Customer service orientation and strong presentation skills.
- Strong contributor to team success.
