Forsyth County Department of Public Health is searching for a Public Health Nurse II to join the team. Refugees often face unique health challenges, including communicable diseases, and barriers related to language and cultural differences. A dedicated Refugee Nurse is essential to address these needs through targeted health assessments, care coordination, immunization support, education, and linkage to health and social services.
Skills- Considerable knowledge and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs.
- Working knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles and practices of public health.
- Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health.
- Knowledge of available resources and organizations in the community.
- Ability to record accurately the services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions.
- Ability to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information, and to maintain effective working relationships.
- Graduation from a four‑year college or university with a B.S. Degree in Nursing which includes a public health nursing rotation and one year of professional nursing experience in a specialty area; or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience in a specialty area assigned.
- Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
- Individuals hired without a rotation through a public health department as part of the educational requirement will be required to complete the "Introduction to the Public Health Nursing" course within one year of hire.
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
- Proficient in completing necessary I‑693 paperwork during separate patient appointments.
- The position has been identified to interact with children and must comply with NC G.S. 153A‑94.2(b) requiring an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity to be subject to a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI.
- These checks must be conducted in accordance with G.S. 143B‑1209.26, which authorizes the SBI to provide a fingerprint‑based state and national criminal record check to cities and counties.
- Conduct initial health screenings for newly arrived refugees.
- Provide culturally appropriate health education and navigation support.
- Coordinate with other community organizations to ensure continuity of care.
- Improve long‑term health outcomes among refugee populations.
- Support public health goals and compliance with state and federal refugee health mandates.
