Job Title: Telecommunications Network Engineer, Third Shift

Supporting: The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA)
Location: Dayton, OH – or – Columbus, OH (onsite)

Overview

Comp Tech is seeking a Telecommunications Network Engineer to provide mission-critical network engineering and operational support to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).

This position supports DLA Information Operations, Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS), Network & Telecommunications Services (NTS), Local Area Network Branch (NTS-LAN). The NTS-LAN environment supports enterprise wired and wireless network services across multiple DLA locations.

The Telecommunications Network Engineer will support the availability, reliability, performance, and technical integrity of DLA’s enterprise network infrastructure. This includes supporting LAN/WAN and telecommunications environments throughout the system lifecycle—from engineering and integration through deployment, operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and sustainment.

As a Third Shift Engineer, the successful candidate must be comfortable working independently in an overnight operational environment, responding to network issues, performing troubleshooting and escalation, and helping maintain continuity of critical network services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and engineering support for enterprise LAN/WAN, wired, wireless, and telecommunications network environments.
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure to support reliable voice and data services.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and availability issues and assist in identifying root causes.
  • Support the engineering, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment of network hardware and software.
  • Analyze network issues and work across infrastructure components to isolate faults and restore services.
  • Support network changes, upgrades, maintenance activities, and technology refresh efforts.
  • Assist with maintaining the technical integrity and configuration baseline of the network environment throughout its lifecycle.
  • Support integration and interoperability between network hardware, software, telecommunications systems, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, network changes, technical issues, and resolutions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate with network engineers, operations personnel, technical teams, and other stakeholders to resolve incidents and maintain service availability.
  • Follow applicable DoD/DLA security, configuration management, change-management, and operational procedures.
  • Provide reliable Third Shift coverage in support of mission-critical network operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of network operations experience. Higher-level education or qualifying military service may be substituted for the two-year network operations experience requirement.
  • Experience with telecommunications network design and management.
  • Experience analyzing, designing, supporting, and/or troubleshooting:
    • LAN and WAN data networks
    • Voice networks
    • Wireless networks
    • Network management systems
    • Voice and data communications services
  • Experience supporting the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing of complex hardware/software systems.
  • Strong network troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify, isolate, document, and elevate network incidents in an enterprise operational environment.
  • Ability to work effectively during Third Shift/overnight hours and respond to network issues with limited supervision.
