Driver
Performs intermediate semiskilled work operating and maintaining sanitation equipment, collecting refuse along assigned route, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Sanitation Operations Supervisor. Continuous oversight is exercised over Sanitation Laborer.
- Drives street sweeping truck and records street information verifying completion of task.
- Cleans street sweeping truck and equipment.
- Will be required to work special events that require weekends and/or holidays.
- Reports violations of ordinances to supervisor.
- May operate other refuse collection trucks and complete other tasks within the work group as needed.
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in sanitation operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in performance of heavy manual work and in the operation of automotive equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; ability to perform continuous heavy manual work at a rapid pace; ability to operate automotive equipment safely and effectively; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions;
ability to supervise the work of unskilled helpers; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements;
vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities;
work regularly requires exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment, frequently requires exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

City Vehicle Operator's training
Upon hire:Valid commercial driver's license with Class B endorsement.
