Description We are looking for a detail-oriented procurement specialist to support fast-paced purchasing activity for engineering and operational needs in North Carolina. This long-term contract position focuses on securing materials and services that keep build and test programs moving without delay, while balancing cost, timing, and quality expectations. The role is well suited for someone who can respond quickly to shifting priorities, work effectively with suppliers, and contribute to ongoing improvements in purchasing processes.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee purchasing activity for assigned statements of work, ensuring material and service needs are fulfilled in support of production, build, and test objectives.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders accurately and on schedule while tracking commitments through completion.
- Identify, evaluate, and source suppliers capable of meeting urgent demand, quality standards, and delivery expectations.
- Run competitive bid activities and compare supplier options to recommend the best overall sourcing approach, including potential risk considerations.
- Monitor vendor performance against delivery goals and take action to address delays, shortages, or other supply concerns.
- Use Ariba and related procurement tools to manage purchasing transactions, documentation, and workflow requirements.
- Maintain dashboards and shared tracking resources with current information for assigned work scopes and purchasing status.
- Participate in team and operational discussions to communicate supply risks, constraints, opportunities, and recommended solutions.
- Support leadership with continuous improvement efforts, including process enhancement initiatives, project work, and future planning activities.
- Complete required training and comply with company policies, procedures, and procurement standards. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least 3 years of purchasing or procurement experience, or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
- In place of a degree, 7 years of directly related procurement or sourcing experience is required.
- Demonstrated experience creating and managing purchase orders in a high-demand environment.
- Strong background in supplier sourcing, bid evaluation, and procurement risk assessment.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities with urgency while maintaining attention to cost, service, lead time, and quality.
- Experience working with procurement systems such as Ariba and maintaining accurate reporting or dashboard information.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with operations, engineering, leadership, and suppliers.
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement efforts such as process improvement projects, kaizen activities, or related operational initiatives.
