Job Summary
The Program Director for the North Carolina Diabetes Research Center (NCDRC) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for this NIH-funded P30 Center, which spans multiple institutions including Wake Forest University School of Medicine, UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University, and NC A&T State University. This position ensures the successful execution of NCDRC programs, initiatives, and collaborations, while serving as the primary administrative liaison between institutional leadership, site PIs, and advisory committees.
The Program Director helps manage a multi-million-dollar annual budget with the internal grant management team, oversees the administrative operations of the pilot program, and leads efforts to advance diabetes research across North Carolina.
Essential Functions
* Strategic Leadership & Planning
* With the NCDRC PI and leaders, develop and implement strategic plans aligned with NCDRC and institutional goals.
* Foster collaborations across partner institutions and maintain strong relationships with faculty and administrative staffs.
* Represent NCDRC at institutional, state, and national meetings.
* Program Oversight
* Direct all administrative aspects of the NCDRC, including pilot and feasibility programs, seminar series, annual symposium, and advisory committee meetings.
* Ensure compliance with NIH and institutional policies, reporting requirements, and timelines.
* Oversee subcontract management and financial tracking in coordination with finance teams.
* Budget & Resource Management
* Work with pre-award and post-award teams to manage and monitor the annual budget for the NCDRC.
* Monitor the use and expenditure of pilot funds by meeting with investigators regularly.
* Communication & Outreach
* Serve as the administrative liaison for NCDRC members, advisory committees, and external stakeholders.
* Oversee development of newsletters, website updates, and other communication tools to promote NCDRC activities.
* Reporting & Evaluation
* Prepare annual progress reports for NIH and assist with competitive renewal applications.
* Maintain evaluation data and metrics to assess program impact and inform continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree required.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in program or research administration, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting.
* Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale, multi-institutional programs and budgets.
* Strong leadership, strategic planning, and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with NIH-funded centers or grants administration.
* Familiarity with diabetes research or translational science initiatives.
* Proficiency in project management tools and electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap).
Work Environment
Flexible, but preferable hybrid work arrangement with occasional travel to partner institutions and national meetings.
Pay Range
$44.15 - $66.25
Essential Functions
* Responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the day-to-day delivery of program or functional area services.
* Continuously analyzes systems and processes. Develops and implements best practices and appropriate changes to improve outcomes in a timely manner.
* Creates evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements.
* Initiates and set goals for programs and functional area according to the strategic objectives of the organization.
* Assists leader with budget development and planning. Ensures areas of responsibility meet fiscal requirements and monitors expenditures.
* Ensures program and functional area operations and activities adhere to any legal guidelines and internal policies.
* Keeps senior management informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations.
* Develops appropriate communication and communication methods to facilitate the flow of information and maximize effective communication throughout the program. Communicates services with other departments and vendors as applicable.
* Facilitates and/or conducts individual and group presentations as needed.
* May supervise the work and manage performance of assigned staff.
* Participates in committees as appropriate.
* Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Physical Requirements
This position requires periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching. It is essential that the teammate can speak, hear, and see. Ability to use finger and hand dexterity.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor's degree with three years of progressive and applicable experience in the area to be served.
