Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Neuro unit position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience including direct Med/Surg experience, telemetry skills, and a valid NC or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Hospital-based Medical Surgical Neuro unit with a 42-bed daily census and 43 rooms/beds
- Primary patient population includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological diagnoses
- Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), though travelers are not typically assigned there unless trained
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- 12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Every other weekend shift required; missed weekend shifts must be made up based on unit needs
- Floating required to other Med/Surg and Telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units
- Uses Epic EMR, Pyxis, and SBAR communication framework
- 13-week contracts accepted, with the possibility of extension beyond 13 weeks
- Provide nursing care to neuro patients including stroke, epilepsy, subdural hematomas, and pre/post neurosurgery cases
- Orientation is 36 hours
- Navy scrubs required
- RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site; call-offs or unapproved RTO may result in contract cancellation
- Any shift call-offs must be made up within the same week or at the end of the contract
- If RTO falls on weekends, additional days will be added to the end of the contract to compensate
- Local candidates are accepted
- Block scheduling cannot always be accommodated
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
- Must have at least 2 completed travel contracts prior to applying — first-time travelers will not be considered
- Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- ACLS preferred but not required
- Proficiency in IV insertion and telemetry monitoring required
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias required
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
