American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, including direct Med/Surg experience, with a focus on neurological patient care.

• Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Primary patient population includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematoma, and other neuro diagnoses
• Unit has a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); travelers are not typically assigned to the EMU unless trained by the unit
• Patient ratio is 1:6 with a daily census of 42 patients across 43 beds
• 12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12 per week)
• 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend required; missed weekend shifts must be made up based on unit needs
• Floating required to other Med/Surg Tele areas, which may include COVID care units; frequent floating is possible
• EMR:
  Epic (experience required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Must have at least 2 successfully completed travel contracts; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Proficiency in IV insertion, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
• Med/Surg neuro experience required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start

• Provide nursing care to a neuro-focused Med/Surg Tele patient population, including stroke, epilepsy, and neurosurgery patients
• Orientation is 36 hours
• RTO requests after booking are not permitted; call-offs or additional time off may result in contract cancellation
• If RTO includes weekend days, those dates will be added to the end of the contract
• If a shift is called off, it must be made up within the same week or at the end of the contract
• Local candidates are accepted
• Navy scrubs required; scrubs are not provided
• 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be considered
