Overview
Naph Care is hiring a Nurse Practitioner to join our team of medical professionals at Forsyth Detention Center, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals currently incarcerated in Winston Salem, NC.
As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to residents. Working within a controlled environment where security is the top priority, you will have varied duties, including assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribing medications, responding to emergencies, and more. This unique position allows you to make a difference among a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.
Responsibilities- Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans, and monitor patients.
- Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
- Administer medications and provide instructions to patients.
- Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories.
- Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
- Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
- Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
- Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals to ensure safety and well‑being.
- Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report any relevant information.
- Conduct rounds, evaluate patients returning from off‑site treatment.
- Admit and discharge patients from the facility.
- Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate).
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of North Carolina.
- Current DEA registration.
- Appropriate collaborative agreement with the on‑site physician.
- Active BLS CPR certification (American Heart Association preferred).
- Board‑recognized certification in a specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable healthcare laws, regulations, and procedures for direct care services.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus.
- Integrity, professionalism, and ability to adhere to the facility’s code of conduct and all correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
