Join our Cardiovascular Surgical ICU, a newly renovated 29‑bed unit located in the new critical care tower at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston‑Salem, NC. The CVSU provides concentrated care for patients with severe cardiac, vascular, and thoracic disorders, including invasive hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support.
Unit Details- Unit size: 29 beds
- Patient age: 18 years or older
- Patient conditions: cardiogenic shock, aortic dissection, mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, VA‑V, VV, VAV, RVAD, LVAD), cardiac tamponade, post‑open‑heart surgery, and other cardiac related conditions
- 24/7 care
- Patient‑Nurse ratio: 1‑2:1

Full time, dayshift 7am‑7pm - Location:
Forsyth Medical Center – Winston‑Salem, NC - Specialty: only unit trained to care for open‑heart patients; acts as PACU and operates for 24‑48 hours before transfer to step‑down CICCU
The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team, establishing personalized relationships with patients and their families, collaborating with physicians, and implementing individualized plans of care.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans that promote optimal health or support a peaceful death.
- Utilize scientific evidence and compassion to assist patients in navigating their health journey.
- Collaborate with physicians and other team members to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care.
- Take responsibility, authority, and accountability for managing and providing care in accordance with current policies and procedures.
- Support a safe patient environment guided by “First Do No Harm.”
- Participate in a culture that fosters teamwork, engagement, and community involvement.
- Leverage diversity and inclusion to enhance quality care.
- 4‑Year Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school required.
- Current RN licensure in the appropriate state required.
- One year of CVICU experience or at least two years of ICU experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to manage cardiac patients and previous experience caring for critical‑care patients.
- Knowledge of EKG rhythms.
- Previous progressive/telemetry or critical‑care experience preferred.
- For RN licenses inactive, retired, or lapsed for five years or more, a Board‑approved refresher course must be completed before reactivation, followed by reinstatement application within one year after completion.
