Licensure, Registration & Certification
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the member practices.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 45 days unless otherwise determined by the department leader.
Education & Experience
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
  • No prior experience required.
Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare and room patients for examination, obtaining vital signs and documenting health information.
  • Perform laboratory procedures (e.g., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection) using aseptic technique and standard precautions.
  • Assist the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
  • Administer medications under physician/provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy when appropriate.
  • Provide basic patient education on tasks, skills, treatment, and self‑care; follow through with referrals, prescription refills, and new appointments.
  • Communicate with physicians and healthcare team members; document and provide timely information regarding patient conditions.
  • Perform advanced clinical tasks under supervision, including removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen, phlebotomy), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care.
  • Organize and prepare exam rooms, lab and work areas: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment.
  • Perform patient positioning and transportation duties requiring lifting and proper technique.
  • Maintain equipment quality and clean or sterilize instruments.
  • Participate in patient‑centered initiatives, care management, performance, and quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate age‑appropriate knowledge and skill to provide appropriate care for patients of all ages.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows navigation, and electronic mail; exposure to electronic medical records systems.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; lift up to 20 lbs over the head; carry up to 40 lbs over a reasonable distance; push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical hazards, and blood/body fluids; protective clothing and equipment required as needed.
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with fine‑hand manipulation skills.
